DARTS – BETWS RFC V OLD CROSS On Tuesday, November 13th, the darts team entertained the Old Cross, Ammanford. The home team again had a strong squad with Arwyn Owen (AR)(Capt) having to choose from Arwyn Roberts (AR), Jeff Thomas (JT), Don Griffiths (DG), Terry Davies (TD), Tony Archer (TA), Emrys Wilcox (EW), Mike Towell (MT) and Alan Smith (AS) with Ron Richards and Gwilym (le mae’r dwr na wedi dod o) Davies in reserve. The opening threes had AR, JT and MT in action and although they had a few chances at a double, the Old Cross won when they finished on 62 with an unusual 16, 16, D15 to go 0-1 in the lead. The second threes had AS, EW and DG performing. They started slowly and were a long way behind when AS began an inspired fight back with a 140. The match was then delicately poised with Betws requiring 6 and the Old Cross 5, but AS used his Army experience of working under pressure to secure the win! The pairs started with TA and MT throwing for the home team but they lost to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Then came the surprise package of the season, the pairing of EW and DG. They threw magnificently despite being handicapped by EW’s third dart “reverse kick back” and won a handsome victory to make it 2-2. AR and TD, the kissing cousins, then won their game when TD went out on 84, with a 20, T16 and D8. The score was now 3-2 to the homesters. JT started off the singles and rediscovered the form he last displayed in 1970 when playing for the Plough! A 140, one score under 60 and a D20 saw him winning to make it 4-2. A win by AR made it 5-2 but TA lost leaving Betws requiring one more win for the match. Mr Reliable AO then threw and won giving Betws the match, but TD and AS failed in their matches making the final score 6-5. A big thank you to Helen for this weeks catering – there were a few items left so cut back for next week please! EW would also like to thank MT for deleting the entire contents of his mobile’s memory and remember, if you don’t like what’s been written about you, just listen to TD’s advice and “don’t listen to everything you read.”
