A
group of 30+ players and supporters left Betws on the Thursday,
27th September enroute to the Nantes region of France to take
part in a Festival of Rugby coinciding with the Fiji-Wales game
in the RWC. The boys played one match, described by their French
hosts as a Demonstration Match, against the local team “VX de
l’Erdre”as part of a day-long celebration of the game of “Le
Rugby”. The boys were “well up” for the fixture as they have
been training long and hard in the Railway Inn, The Old Cross
and the Bard, but watch out for the “vin rouge” guys, it’s
nothing like Worthy Creamflow!
The trip was
arranged under the auspices of Betws RFC’s residential
Frenchman, the aptly named Steffan “France”, who acted as
interpreter (English-French for most of the boys but
English-English for Cellan).
The visit by the
Betws boys made the news out in Nantes and with the BBC now
interested, it could be the biggest threat to Anglo-French
relationships since 1066! Hopefully, some pictures will be shown
on the site on their return – should they return that is!

The club recently hosted a
match between a Llanelli & District XV and a Dyfed Powys Police
XV with the Police emerging as winners in a keenly contested
match. Both Dylan Thomas and Ellis Davies, respective
Secretaries of the Police and District teams were extremely
complimentary about the facilities afforded by the club and were
especially complimentary regarding the condition of the Maes y
Felin pitch, ably prepared by our groundsman, Mr Brian “Parks”
Lewis.
