The
Betws RFC Darts Team is having a successful season and prior to this
week’s fixture was lying third in the league. Without a game last week
because of the withdrawal of The Fisherman’s, the team entertained the
league leaders, Collier’s (Saron) at the club on Tuesday, 30th October.
The
match didn’t start too well for the home team and after the three’s and
the pairs, they were 4-1 down, with the pairing of Emrys (The Demon
Barber) Wilcox and Don (watch my shoulder) Griffiths being the only
winners. It was now all down to the six players drawn for the singles
matches. Alas, the score soon became 5-2 when Arwyn (Table for 4, Sir)
Roberts lost, but wins for Tony (The Tiles) Archer, Terry (Look and
Learn) Davies, Chris (Light my fire) Morris and Jeff (It wasn’t me)
Thomas tied the score at 5-5. Enter Alan (When I was in the Army) Smith
into the fray, and he produced the finish of his career with a treble
20, 16 and a double top to go out on 116, giving a final result of 6-5
to Betws.
The
Captain, Arwyn (Ti’n twli fel …….) Owen lost the captains match but
despite the resting of Mike (White Van Man) Towell, the team gained a
well deserved victory. Team Manager Ronnie (Son-of-a-gun) Richards was
quoted as saying, “The boys did well, but they should heed the advice of
Terry Davies when trying to end the match.”
Terry
had told the boys during the match, “Boys, it’s a quarter of an inch
wide and goes around the outside of the board!” I am sure that all the
team will remember his advice but will these words come back and bite
him on the bum? Watch this space!
Next
week sees the team up at the Colliers, Garnant.
